2022 season from Tom Flint

The 2nd XI enjoyed a successful season this year in division 7b. We won our first 6 games after introducing several of the youngsters from Fitzy's league winning 3rd XI from 2021. They picked up where they left off by blowing away the oppositions batting line ups, only conceding 200 once and taking 10 wickets in the vast majority of games. The fielding was at the standards on most teams 1st XI's as the youth in the side brought added energy and speed around the field. It also sharpened up the more experienced senior players who raised their game alongside the young lads. With an average age of of under 25 and 7/8 former adelaide colts taking to the pitch in most games, it is testament to the hard work put in by those running and organising our colts teams over the years that we see the rewards in our senior teams.
Some standout knocks with the bat saw two centuries for Callum McCarney and a huge club record 208 from Sam Green-Armitage. Five-fors were picked up by Finian Gibson, Eddie Cox, Ben Hammond and Ellis Heath. Hugh Donnelly and Tristan Barton-Allen bowled superbly throughout the year taking the new ball.
It came down to the final game to see us guarantee promotion and we posted a total of 201 thanks to a fantastic 78no by our Mr consistent Chintan Mehta, a touch under par on a decent track. Our bowlers made light work of defending our runs on the board by skittling Alenbury's & County Hall for 87.
We celebrated what we thought was 2nd place and a good season, however in the following months we became aware of possible points deductions in the league and we were eventually notified we had in fact finished top and promoted 2 divisions to 6b.
I'd like to thank Ben Hammond for the great job he done as my vice captain and congratulations to Sam Green-Armitage and Eddie Cox who finished top run scorer and wicket taker respectively, but it was a team effort (35 different players represented the 2's this year) and we would like to thank everyone for all the support we recieved from the sidelines all year and we look forward to working hard and play some more good cricket this season!
