week off, then away at Tyndale
South Leicester 22 Hinckley 15
South got their deserved win in a curates egg of a game that was good in parts against a Hinckley team that seemed intent on slowing the game down and for the first half it didn't make for enterprising rugby and it wasn't helped by the 20 penalties that Hinckley conceded during the game for not releasing, lying on ball and other offences which stopped any chance of fluent rugby
The green and whites overcame this in the second half by dictating the pace and speeding up the game enabling them to get the win that at one stage seemed to have eluded them.
South didn't make the best of starts within 4 minutes dropping a pass on the halfway which was picked up with alacrity by Mitch Lamb who gleefully ran on to touch down, Conor Bullivant converting 0-7
A Rickie Aley long range penalty soon reduced the arrears 3-7 but the game began to get bogged down in scrums, penalties and line outs. Fortunately South's front row more than held their own with Dale Ager taking one against the head, which is rare these days of crooked feeds. His line out throwing ensured Will Ward and the other jumpers possession, they also managed to disrupt Hinckley's line outs.
But it was Hinckley who were next on the scoreboard after Bullivant put Lamb away for his second try.3-12. Just before HT Aley slotted over another penalty 6-12.
The second half started with South being awarded two penalties, one hit the post and out the second hit its target 9-12. Bullivant soon extended the visitors lead with a penalty 9-15. South then began to up the tempo, Blane Howe ran from his own half linked with Gaz Turner who put Aaron Martin over, Aley adding to take the lead at 16-15.The winning try came from a miscued Aley drop kick attempt which the alert Howe pounced on to touch down, Aley converting to give South a 23-15 win.
After three frustrating and last minute losses against the other Leicestershire teams it was more than deserved
