South show great composure !

Match report - Loughborough v South 19/2/17

It was a cool and damp day for South's away fixture against a traditionally strong Loughborough side.

South were coming off the back of two excellent performances and hopes were high we could continue our good form. South started well putting in some lovely tackles from the back row. This led to the first scrum to south, a lovely pass went out to Callum who scythed through the Loughborough backs and scored a beautiful try under the post, he added the extra two to start the scoring off !

0-7 to South

Loughborough came back at us strongly and forced some robust defence from South. We started to ruck strongly at the breakdowns, Cam went on a big charge, off loading to Ollie and then to Jono for a lovely phase of play down the left wing. Loughborough came back at us and with Josh making a lovely tackle outwide.

The ball was spun out to Spencer who changed the angle of the attack very well, this was stopped by a Loughborough tackler and they hammered the ball back towards out 22".

Callum at full back recovered the ball but was tackled Jack did some great work at the ruck won the ball and drove back at the attackers. The ball went out to Callum S who put a lovely chip across field which Charlie nearly gathered. Great play.

Play continued with a lineout where Jono took the ball forward releasing George who nearly went over. Play went back and forth with both sides attacking strongly but had equally good defence. The South pack working their socks off. Cam massive in the mauls and man of the match Jude storming into tackles in the middle of the paddock, sterling stuff !

Half time 0-7 to South

The second half started with South piling on the pressure taking play. We took play past their 10" line. Joe went on a big drive, off loaded to Jono, made ground then to Callum, popped to Morgan then to Jack, who was stopped just short. Stunning play.

South continued to take the game to Loughborough winning a penalty in their 22". Reece took a cracking quick penalty, the ball went to Cam who was unstoppable, hammering over. Callum just short with the conversion.

0-12 to South

Loughborough were still in the match though and restarted strongly. Jack took the kick off and made a big run through the defence. The ball went out to Ben at fly half who put in a lovely cross kick. Luke nearly gathered but was lovely play.

Issac and Spencer were having stormers in the middle putting in tackle after tackle and making some lovely breaks. Jono was storming forwards from the breakdown. South continued to tie the game down, until the final whistle, with South winning another great match !

Men of the match today were Jude in the forwards, who tackled his heart out and was solid in the scrums ! And Issac in the backs, who made some lovely strong runs and solid tackles ! Massive thanks to Matt Darch for sponsoring the match !
