Milford’s hope for a 4th straight league win was washed away.

Going into Saturday’s game the prospects looked good for us to stretch our winning run to four league games. We were up against Headingley Bramhope this week who are bottom of the table with just one win. To compound things they were also playing short having only nine players.

Sadly the weather gods had other ideas and heavy showers before the 1.00pm start delayed the match. Once they had blown away we discovered that the covers had leaked a bit and there was a damp patch at one end of the wicket just about on a length.

This was eventually soaked up and play finally started at 3.00pm. Both sides reduced to 30 overs per innings. Headingley won the toss and elected to bat. Obviously wanting to get the pain over with asap.

It seemed that we might have a quick finish to the game when opening bowler Steve Winspear got back to his early season knack of taking a wicket in his first over. A beauty which bowled Headingley skipper Matt Frosdick for a duck.

Dan White at the other end was having more problems and at one stage ended up flat on his back after slipping over on his follow through. He continued to bowl but a lot more cautiously even with liberal application of saw dust.

Steve picked up his 2nd wicket of the day in his 7th over but that was the last breakthrough we managed to make by the time the rain returned.

Tea was taken in the hope the ground would be fit afterwards. A fine effort once again this week. A combined Ward/White feast this week. Nice to see one of Loz’s big sausage rolls making a guest appearance. Guess what James it has sausage in it. I couldn’t find fault with the food on offer but the promise of the ‘Club Curry’ later in the evening meant I didn’t perhaps take full opportunity of everything on offer. The carrot cake was nice though.

The umpires decided we would try to re-start the match at 5 o’clock but another torrential downpour left the ground like a quagmire (Giggity). So it was decided to call it a day, shake hands and close up for the season. This been the last game to be played at the Swan Croft this season.
