Milford needed one more win to confirm their place in the second division for next season. As we are to play away to Kirk Hammerton on the final day, we knew todays game was a must win. For once James Liddle lost the toss and Whixley decided to have a bat.
Dan white and Steve Hall opened the bowling, with overcast conditions above it should have been a testing first 10 overs for the Whixley opening pair. Milford bowled and fielded well without getting the early wickets they needed. It was looking like Whixley we adapting to the conditions well until Steve Hall took two wickets in two balls. He trapped Pat Greenwood () LBW, then he clean bowled their number 3 batsman first ball. Dan White again bowled tight from the pavilion end without getting the wickets he deserved.
James Liddle decided to give young Dan a rest and bring on Adam Gee. The change worked with Gee taking two wickets in his first over and another in his second. Milford at this stage were on top, with Gee striking again in his fourth over. Whixley found themselves 70/7 and looking like they were going to struggle to reach three figures. Their last three batsmen were all left handed which am sure is against some cricketing law. They were finally bowled out for 157 with Adam Gee taking 6 wickets and John Cain taking the other two.
After a great bowling performance it was time for tea and what a tea it was. All round great guy Stuart Morley put on a fantastic spread. Which would hopefully inspire our batsman to finish off the great work the bowlers had started.
James Liddle and Stuart Morley opening the batting and from the first ball they made batting look easy. Infact it just showed how well the bowlers had done keeping their scored below 150. Both James and Stuart found the boundary on regular occasions and James hit a six for another 50 but our scorer (Miss Barr) was to busy drinking another glass of wine to acknowledge the fact. Milford looked like they were going to win by 10 wickets until James was clean bowled on 84. This meant Dan White had the chance to hit the winning runs, which he did with a cover drive for four. Milford ended on 139/1 with Staurt Morley on (54*).
