Tuesday night saw us back under the lights at The Transcare Arena as we welcomed in-form Dronfield Town in UCL Division 1 action.
As we got underway in the perishing cold, the game sparked into life after 15 minutes with Mason Booth-Davis causing the away side problems down the left side as he drove into the box. The Dronfield defender Isaac Reardon seemed to come across to block the cross with Mason going down from the challenge, leaving the referee with a decision to make as he pointed to the spot. Mason Booth-Davis stepped up & very calmly dispatched the spot kick sending the Dronfield keeper the wrong way to put The Shiners 1-0 up early on. George Morris picked up his 10th yellow card of the season for what looked to be a good ball winning challenge which will now see him suspended for 2 games starting next Tuesday. The first half seemed to be drifting to half time as is, with neither side really creating any concrete chances until right on the stroke of half time Dronfield struck a curling effort towards the far corner forcing Normo keeper into a save however his parry was neatly followed & tapped in by Dan Shelbourne for the away side to level things up going into the break.
As the second half got underway, the snow had really picked up throughout half time however The Shiners came out fast hitting the post after a minute. Josh Scully had an excellent free kick saved by the Dronfield keeper on the 50 minute mark with an equally impressive save to keep the scores level. The away side seemed to grow in confidence as the half went on, forcing Normo keeper into a couple of notable saves despite his ongoing injury from the first half. Our second goal came from an excellent forward press with Josh Scully hunting the ball down & playing a perfectly weighted pass through to Mason Booth-Davis who once again was the coolest man on the pitch slotting past the keeper sending him the wrong way once again to restore our 1 goal lead. The drama wasn't finished there as Ash Radmore received 2 yellow cards in very quick succession with the second of the two seeming extremely unfair & certainly a poor judgement call from the officials who have mistaken a push in the back for a dive on the edge of our 18 yard box. The away side then squared the game up instantly as Sam Bebbington poked home from the free kick levelling the score back up to 2-2 heading into the final 10 minutes. As another 3 points seemed to be drifting away from The Shiners, finally a stroke of luck as a deflected effort was converted home much to the relief of the home crowd as it seemed Lewis Macaskill was claiming the goal putting us back in front with the game ending 3-2 to Normo putting us back into the top 6 just 2 points off the play off positions.
Attendance was 88 in awful conditions so thank you to all who attended, greatly appreciated.
MOTM was Mason Booth-Davis for his 2 goals & relentless work rate up front throughout the game. Thanks as always to Debbie & Kev for sponsoring this along with Mason's player sponsor Swann Servicing.
Next up we travel to 2nd place Retford United in yet another huge game as we now head into the business end of the season so your excellent travelling support will be called upon once again as we look to complete a league double over one of the league title favourites.
