Tuesday night we made the trip to fellow promotion pushing side Coalville Town in yet another big away game for The Shiners.
The Shiners made two changes to the starting XI that earned the big point away to league leaders Retford FC at the weekend with Ryan Ordidge slotting in for Ash Radmore in central defence along with Jordan Macaskill replacing Dan Fields in the middle. The home side started quick piling on the pressure early on, forcing Normo to go long right-away. The first real chance went to The Shiners with George Morris unleashing a powerful strike on the Coalville goal forcing the keeper into a great early save. The home side then started to dominate with a chance that saw the Coalville man juggle the ball down the right side, firing his effort just wide of the far post. Little more then a minute after this chance, it was the home side who broke the deadlock after a mistake on the right hand side from The Shiners saw Ryan Sahota clean through on the Normo goal finishing past an on-rushing Ross Etheridge. Just before the half time break a Mason Booth-Davis free kick lands to Leo Marshall on the edge of the area. Leo struck it well however the Coalville defence blocked well forcing the ball to go out wide to Josh Pickering who fired his effort into the side netting.
Second half The Ravens doubled their lead after just a minute played with a long defence splitting ball was played straight through the middle to which Ryan Sahota doubled his tally for the night along with Coalville's lead. A mountain to climb now for The Shiners it felt, as the impressive big home crowd rallied their team once more. 10 or so minutes later The Shiners managed to play some good football for what felt like the first time of the game, earning a corner. A delivery from Billy Whitehead saw George Morris leap highest heading his effort goal-wards past the keeper & forcing the Coalville man to volley into his own net to make it 2-1. A couple of minutes later saw The Shiners threatening the Coalville goal once again with Billy Whitehead charging into the penalty area & going down from what seemed like a push in the back forcing him to the ground. The referee & linesman waved away the very strong appeals seeing Billy Whitehead getting sin binned for his appeals forcing The Shiners down to 10 men for the time being. The home side made the extra man count as they added a third from a long free kick into the box, heading across to Madundo Semahimbo who finishes to kill the game. Billy Whitehead then received his second yellow of the game after a late effort to take the ball off the Coalville keeper, saw The Ravens keeper dramatically dive on the floor holding his foot. The referee subsequently sent Billy off which rubbed further salt into the Normo wounds.
Attendance 280 - 30 or so travelling fans so thank you for your support!
