Tommy Leighton had to make changes TomThe side as a number of players were unavailable he was missing leading scorers Crosby and Hatfield was was still without Mitchell and Johnson due to injury.
Young Jack O Brien was given his debut in midfield and certainly didn't look out of place with a good solid intelligent performance.
The home side took a early lead through a Fell strike after two minutes after the keeper in the Vics goal was very slow of his line. This was a great start against another undefeated side and against a strong wind and the lees lane slope.
Vics looked to counter attack and use their pace but they never really threatened with most balls running through to Mansfield in the home goal.
Bartley made a great block from the only real attack that Vics mustered after a error by the Shiners Captain Roberts who had an interesting first 20 minutes before stepping up to his normal standards
The home side found themselves in some very good positions but just couldn't find the final quality in the last third, the closest was from O Brien after a header dropped in six yard box but from a very narrow angle could only hit the side netting
The second half saw Vics have more possession after some strong words we would presume they had equal possession but just didn't create anything of note which lead to their two strikers being withdrawn from the game.
Massingham had a shot go just wide with the keeper rooted and just a spectator he again then twisted and turned to get an angle to sheet which he did but with O Brien stood in acres of space a pace may have been the better option
The game continued and O Brien was replaced by Worger and its was he that created a number of chances but again the final pass was unable to find a shiners player when very well placed
A good cross from Bartley was met at the near post by Worger but it hit the post and fell to safety
The game drifted to a 1:0 win and no one goal victory is ever comfortable but as this as comfortable as it can get with Mansfield only called into action once saving from a free kick
Next up is a very tough test against Long Eaton Utd off the Midland League in the FA Vase on Saturday
Today was a testament to the depth of squad needed to be successful and the side is growing each week Victory is alway good for this Shiners management team and squad against local rival Vics due the close ties for many over 10 once being involved there and in some way become the real local Derby for its players if not for the Shiners supporters
