This would be the first real test of how well the pre-season preparation had gone and how much the lads have taken in.
There was definitely a sense of urgency from Southport as the game kicked off, met equally with some ring rust that is still to be further discarded from last weeks LSH match.
Mistakes were made, the positives from this however, was that the level of effort and the desire to right those mistakes was evident from all players on the field. Heads stayed up and the positive atmosphere created at the warm up remained.
We dominated the Line-outs and scrums, nothing is perfect but this was an excellent display this early in the season.
A couple of mentions for some of our more inexperienced and newer squad members; Sam Murray, Alex Edwards and Tom Walker made huge impacts on the pitch today.
Alex's work rate was immense, Tom looked in great shape in the scrum and was also impressive in the loose and Sam "two tries" Murray, showed great strength in slipping at least 3 defenders on the way to his first try of two.
A good start to our cup campaign, well done lads.
