3-1 Pumas defeated by Devils again

3-1 Pumas defeated by Devils again

The Devils pulled off another victory against the mighty Pumas winning 3-1. Despite a promising start with us getting clean through on goal we didn't quite manage to find the back of the net. Chances came from some great runs, matched by great passing which on another day would have seen us take the lead. Further chances came throughout the first half but it was just not falling for the Pumas with the Devils goal keeper continuing to show his goal keeping skills. The Devils scored their first chance which was as a result of some hesitant defending which highlighted the low energy performance of the Pumas in the first period.

The setup of the Pumas seemed to leave an unusual gap between the front 3 and the back 3. However, there were spells of really positive play with plenty of good passing and several attempts on goal but all of these were either saved or put just wide. The play was balanced between both teams but the run of play was going to the Devils. A good ball through caught our defense on its heels and the Devils pulled clear to slot a second goal home.

Energy levels gradually began to rise and the pressure started to build with the Pumas pressing to get back in the game. It just wasn't happening though. Some more good passing and Leo was through on goal but again the keeper was in the way.

The second half and the Pumas came back fighting but as the chances came it kept being close but not close enough. A frustrating day until the Pumas started to flood the opposition box with most of the team now fully energized. A couple of corners with some balls into the danger zone and finally the ball broke for Lucas to score, putting the game back on. 2-1 and all to play for.

Before the Pumas could get their teeth into the Devils another shot on goal by the Devils rolled in to make the challenge an upward one. It never quite clicked on the day but had one of the many chances gone in, it was quite clear the Pumas could have scored several more and the score could have easily been the other way.

The positives to be taken from the game were that the whole team really looked to make passes and really looked to work together. This will only get better with time and the whole team had some very strong periods of possession with both new and old team members fitting in well to the squad.
