Southside Lions v Southside Pumas U9s

With illness sweeping through the Lions team this week, some position tweaks were needed.

Both teams started brightly and it felt like the first goal could come at either end. Teenie and Max Loxam were both kept busy in defence and cleared their lines well.

Ted also started well linking up with the forwards, in an unfamiliar central midfield role. However, it was the Pumas who broke the deadlock, after a deflected shot hit the back of the net during a goal line scramble.

Lion’s keeper Ralph kept the Lions in the match with a good penalty save after a handball incident.

Lions had their chances though and Oscar came the closest in the first half after his shot smashed against the post. Unlucky boys. Half time 0-1 Pumas.

The whistle blew to get the second half underway and Lions were caught sleeping at the back. Pumas punished with a good finish inside two minutes. 0-2.

It was a well balanced second half with both teams having their chances. Max Moore’s shot hit the upright, after a good ball from Jude Varley.

New Lions signing, Fox Pullinger had a great debut too. His confidence grew as the game progressed, executing some good tackles and some tidy passing. Welcome to the team Fox!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the Lions today. Well done to the Pumas for their deserved win. Full time 0-2

We saw massive improvements in last week’s performance and we are looking forward to next week’s game v Charlton Rovers. Onwards and upwards!

Man of the match was Jude Varley for a great all round performance, covering a lot of ground today in a variety of different positions.
