Southside Star U8 Cubs - League 1, Fixture 5

The Southside U8 Wildcats played their final game of a 5 match league, with a well deserved 8-4 victory over Bishops Cleeve.

The team had a different feel this week, with a couple of new players brought in to play with the other teams only having 3 matches. Ash was again superb in helping the boys prepare and coaching during the game - thank you.

Bishops Cleeve looked very organised in practice, but as the game started the Wildcats raced into a 5-0 lead very quickly, with Luke Sutton playing up front scoring all of them!

We made some changes at half-time to even up the game, with a change of goalkeeper to give George some time in defence and both Harrison and then Luke Sutton having some time in goal.

The second half was much tighter, with Cleeve having an additional player through “power play” as well as reorganising to put their strongest players in defence. They fought back strongly, scoring a couple of penalties, before a Will Wronski hat-trick steadied the ship with 3 well taken goals, leaving the final score at 8-4.

All the players played well with a great spirit:
- George kept a clean sheet before playing equally well in defence.
- Ed was our captain for the day and a rock in defence.
- Josh ran tirelessly taking a couple of knocks along the way, tackling strongly.
- Harrison was all energy both in goal and midfield, running and covering well.
- Luke Smith was as determined as ever with great tackling, go forward and run of the day.
- Wills had an intelligent game with some great running and 3 well struck goals.
- Luke Sutton grabbed the headlines with 5 very quick goals in the first half showing some fine pace and finishing.

Man of the Match for a consistent performance over all our 5 games, a clean sheet in the first half and a rock solid performance in defence, was George, our star keeper.

We’ve had a great time over the 5 weeks, with a massive thanks to everyone who has played for the Wildcats - you are all Southside family.
