Southwark School Rugby RFU

Southwark RFC School Rugby Programme
Rugby is a game for everyone, regardless of size or athletic ability there is an important role for you to fulfil on the pitch. The Southwark School Rugby Programme (Sponsored by Big Yellow Storage) has been developed by Southwark RFC to increase the amount of rugby in local schools.
Every week our coaches plan and deliver rugby sessionsin6 local secondary schools, providing high quality coaching to year 7 & 8.

The program is built around a weekly 90min session at the school premises enabling participants to develop fitness, co-ordination, discipline and teamwork within an enjoyable, safe, purposeful and funlearning environment.

Participation levels have increased since last year with 2 new schools joining the program. Players have improved and schools and families trust our activity. 6 Festivals are planned throughout the year where all participating schools come together and play against each other in specially designed short matches. The festivals create team-work, discipline, enjoyment and a platform to put pupils new skills into practice.

The club
Southwark RFC is a unique Rugby Club based in inner-London that provides a rugby outlet for children and adults who would otherwise have no exposure to the sport. Founded in 2008, Southwark RFC is located in Burgess Park (close to Elephant & Castle); the Club attracts local players from Bermondsey, Peckham and Camberwell. Part of our desire is to help rugby thrive in an urban environment where very few structured sports clubs exist.
The “Tigers” (Ages 3 – 16) provide local children with the opportunity to learn and play rugby. Training sessions occur every Sunday morning from 10.00 – 12.00. It is a friendly nurturing environment where you can try rugby for free.

Our coaches
All of our sessions are delivered by qualified RFU Level 2 coaches, DBS checked and First Aider qualified. Our coaches are constantly monitored by the club to ensure high quality delivery in a safe environment.

Kit and equipment
Balls, bibs, cones, tackle bags, ladders, obstacles. Each school provides the professional and correct equipment that every session needs. To encourage each player’s creativity, our coaches use different equipment and deliver multi directional drills. The sessions are always planned, managed and delivered to keep the rugby training as safe as possible.
