After some very last-minute changes to the squad, Southwick ladies' 2s arrived at the splendid Worth School to take on Horsham 5s. Southwick were upbeat and ready for a win.

Perhaps it was the beautiful surroundings that put Southwick at ease as they soon settled down to play some equally beautiful hockey.

Southwick dominated play with some textbook passing and positioning that coach Ricko would be proud of.

Several feet later in the D and Southwick's Izi Noakes took advantage of a short corner pass from Ria Wells to score her first of the match. Horsham fought back, but Southwick's distribution of the ball and teamwork made them the better team.

A solid back line created space and width, which set up another goal from Noakes in the second half starting at the back from Sally Walker who set off Emily Maskell down the wing and into Noakes. Noakes' hat-trick came soon after from a gorgeous cross in from the athletic Leanne Buxton with Noakes managing to get a cheeky touch past the goal keeper.

Final score 3-0 win to Southwick.

Unfortunately, no tasty homemade scones from Southwick's very own Bake Off queen, Julie Thompson, to devour post-match this week, but Nic Neal had come prepared with a homemade sandwich which she scoffed in her car while her passengers sat patiently in the back!

Captain Sarah Moss said the whole team deserved to be awarded Player of the Match, but it could only go to one person and it was awarded to the energetic efforts of Emily Maskell.
