as Woodham host local rivals Maldon
This week Woodham hosted local rivals Maldon. The teams had played twice last season with both games being very close but Woodham coming out on top for them both, so today was going to be a grudge match between the two sides.
Maldon lost the toss and Woodham elected to kick off. The Maldon side were straight at Woodham from the off and with 2 minutes had crossed the line for their first Try of the game, with the conversion missed the score 0-5.
Woodham restarted and again Maldon were up at the Woodham defensive line. Maldon were well drilled and hitting the gain line at pace, and the forwards were making ground through the Woodham defences. Maldon again crossed the hosts try line and again the conversion was missed 0-10.
After 2 more try’s Woodham seemed to wake up to the fact they were playing rugby. They started to make ground on the Maldon defences but were held out by some good defensive work from the visitors. However, Maldon again pushed hard against Woodham and again crossed for another Try. The score at half time was 0 – 34 to the visitors.
In the second half Woodham continued to improve but Maldon we stronger in the scrum and again pushed towards the Woodham line. 3 more tries followed along with 2 conversions before the game was stopped with Maldon taking the win 0-53.
