For the past 3 seasons, Spartans and Old Boys and enjoyed some very close and competitive matches which have usually been decided by a score either way, but this time around the Red Ants claimed a dominant 44-0 victory.
Spartans certainly took a big leap forward from their opening defeat of Frampton Cotterell and with Old Boys uncharacteristically off the pace, the result was only ever going to go one way.
The visitors had an advantage in the collisions throughout the game, with Luke Foran and Ashley Lewis to the fore with powerful surges. The narrowed the Old Boys defence which allowed Spartans to attack the wider channels and score three 1st half tries through Josh Allaway (2) and a penalty try as a result of a last ditch high tackle after Ben Beattie went on a superb 70 metre run, beating numerous defenders in the process.
Lewis kicked a conversion and penalty to help his side to a 22-0 half time lead and continued in the same vein in the 2nd half, controlling field position and causing constant problems for the Old Boys Defence.
Further tries came from ben Beattie (2) and Elliot Mayer and a penalty and 2 further conversions from Lewis.
Unfortunately the win may have come at a heavy cost for Spartans, with both Tom Broady and Ben Webb suffering serious injuries which are likely to keep them out of action over the coming weeks.
