two late goals hand deserved win to the away side

Braintree Town Irons v Scorpions
Mason 15
Patrick 35, 37

Another great team performance from the Scorpions today.

The first half started well for the away side who had the lion's share of possession for the first ten minutes, but it was Caspar who was first called into action between the posts diving bravely at the feet of the Braintree forward to stop a goal bound shot.

The Scorpions continued to press and a free kick was awarded after Jake was fouled when trying to run through on goal. His shot from all of 30 yards was blocked with a hand and another free-kick was awarded much closer to goal. Jake struck the resulting free-kick well and it looked to heading into the net when another hand ball stopped the ball crossing the line. PENALTY! Unfortunately it wasn't third time lucky for Jake as he struck his penalty wide of the left post (I'm assured the grass moved!)

15 minutes in and the Scorpions were dominating and the first goal came when Mason finished neatly to net his 4th goal of the season. Further shots from Patrick and Mason failed to trouble the keeper and some excellent tracking back from Tor and Poyraz to keep the Scorpions ahead were the highlights of the first half - Half time 1-0 to the away side.

The Second half also started strongly for the Scorpions and after a succession of corners taken by Caspar, Charlie hit a first time shot that brought a great save from the keeper. Further shots from Caspar and Mason also brought saves from the keeper but the game remained in the balance.

Braintree Town Irons finally started to get into the game and all of a sudden the Scorpions looked a little nervy. After leaving too much space behind the Irons' forward was through on goal and a simple finish made it 1-1. Just two minutes later and all the good work the Scorpions had put in was undone, and more sloppy defending allowed Braintree Town to make it 2-1, totally against the run of play.

But the Scorpions showed fantastic team spirit and as they always do, not letting their heads drop as they tried to get back into the game. That tenacity paid off with two quick fire goals from Patrick, the 2nd of his goals a typically strong finish which put the game beyond Braintree Town - Final score 3-2 to the Scorpions and a well deserved victory.

A great performance from all the team today. Everyone got stuck in and to win from a losing position after dominating play showed a real team ethic each of the players should be proud of. Well done everyone.

Player of the Match - Mason. Opened the scoring with a tidy finish and didn't stop running. Got into some great attacking positions and had some good shots against an in form Braintree Town keeper. Also hit a great Free Kick from distance that was cleared off the line. Well done.
