Two missed penalties not costly as Scorpions win again!

Galleywood Falcons v Scorpions
Caspar
Jake
Archie

Our final game of the season today and another good win for the Scorpions in a slightly scrappy encounter.

The Scorpions started fast today with Caspar opening the scoring after just 2 minutes with a nice finish low into the goal. A few minutes later and Jake was brought down in the penalty area and awarded a penalty. The ball was placed on the edge of the box - Penalty spot next time Jake!? .. the ball was hit firmly but the keeper was strong and made a good save. Just a few moments later and a dangerous long throw from Jake was converted into the net by a defender and the Scorpions had a deserved 2-0 lead with just 7 minutes on the clock.

The Falcons started to find their feet and an excellent save by Charlie kept the Falcons at bay, but from a corner some scrappy defending allowed the Falcons a simple tap in to make it 2-1. Poyraz made a fantastic run to try to restore the two goal cushion but his shot was saved by an inspired Falcons keeper. After the Falcons goal the game felt more in the balance and another top save from Charlie from distance brought the half to an end - 2-1 and all to play for in the second period.

The second half started well once again for the Scorpions and Caspar through on goal was hacked down just as he was about to pull the trigger – a simple decision for the referee - Penalty! Another very well hit strike was again saved by the Falcons keeper to keep the lead at just 1 goal.

The remainder of the second half was very evenly contested, mainly in midfield where George and Lucas continued to break up play. The game was killed off when a great throw in found Archie in space and he converted with confidence! 3-1. Further shots from Jake, Mason, Tor and Poyraz (who skimmed the post) couldn't improve upon the goal tally.

Another hard fought victory today against an improved Galleywood Falcons on their home soil and four wins in a row to end the season on a high. Congratulations to the whole squad on a fantastic season and I am sure I speak for all the parents when I say how brilliantly you have all done this year. We've enjoyed watching every match and we're all very proud of your performances. Well done everyone.

Bring on next season !!

COME ON THE SCORPIONS!

Player of the match - Charlie. Volunteered to be goalkeeper all match and made some crucial saves at important moments in the game. His distribution was excellent and his kicking was putting the Falcons under all sorts of pressure. A very assured performance today - Well done.
