Emphatic win to start the new season in style

Sunday 8th September 2019

Hatfield Peverel Giants 0 – 5 Scorpions
Archie 2

An emphatic win for the Scorpions today against very capable opposition.

The Scorpions were instructed to start strongly today after a slow start last week, and the team responded perfectly by going one up within 3 minutes when Archie broke forward. Finding himself 1 on 1 with the keeper he stayed composed and showed great feet going around the keeper and tapping into an empty net.

A few minutes later and the Scorpions were two up. A great run down the wing from Jake and a fantastic ball across goal found Archie in space and he made no mistake with a neat finish. 2-0

The Scorpions kept pressuring and further chances fell to Jake, Patrick and Mason but the third goal was proving elusive. George , Lucas and Patrick all worked very hard towards the end of the half but found it hard to make clear cut opportunities. Our captain for today Tor, who started in goal, didn't have too much to do between the sticks but was called upon late into the first half bravely coming out to collect the ball denying the Giants a shooting opportunity. Poyraz had to be as commanding as ever at the back and was snuffing out danger and showing great distribution by always finding a team mate with a pass

Half time 2-0 and the Scorpions good value for their lead.

The Second half started more evenly with the Giants having more possession. Lucas was making some good runs with the ball and George was looking solid in goal. Tor who moved into defence made some great interceptions and also hit an absolute thunderbolt of a shot from distance which was saved, but it wasn't long before the game was all but won when Patrick scored a great lob from outside the box to make it 3-0

The forth followed shortly afer with a fabulous strike from Mason into the top corner, and Jake added a 5th goal with a lovely solo effort, running half the length of the pitch and slotting in from a tight angle.

Full Time 5-0.

A fabulous team performance today with everyone playing really well. Our passing was very good in the middle of the park and it was pleasing to see the drills that we are working on in training being shown in matches – But let's remember to look for a pass in the final third and set up a team mate if they are in space in front of goal. Well done everyone.

Scorpion of the week – Poyraz

Another dominating defensive performance and we never looked like conceding a goal. It was great to see how composed Poyraz was on the ball today, always finding a team mate with a pass from defence to put us on the attack. Well done.
