Missed chances prove the difference

Sunday 29 September 2019

SWF United Reds 3 – 0 Scorpions

The Scorpions suffered their first league defeat of the seasons at the home of SWF United Reds, with the astro proving tricky to play on once again.

The match started fairly evenly with both teams pressing well and not allowing each other too much time on the ball. A succession of early corners for the Scorpions didn't result in any shooting opportunities and just moments later somewhat ironically found themselves a goal down after a nicely worked corner from the Reds was slotted home.

The Reds with the bit between their teeth started to pile on the pressure and a nice save from Lucas kept the score at 1, but some sloppy defending and not clearing our lines allowed the Reds to double their lead not long after.

The Scorpions never let their heads drop and continued to battle away finishing the half the brighter of the two sides with shots from Archie Jake and Mason, but unfortunately none found the back of the net.

The second half was better from the Scorpions with some much better chances being created. Jake had a good run through on goal but was tackled just as he was going to pull the trigger and a great opportunity for Lucas saw his shot saved by the goalkeeper. George and Poyraz both made some excellent tackles against a quick Reds side, and Tor was commanding in goal in the second half. A nice move from the Reds close to the final whistle saw them seal the game 3-0

A tough match today for the Scorpions. There wasn't much in it but we just lacked our usual clinical finishing. Everyone should be very proud of their efforts so lets not let any frustration creep in. Even the best teams in the world have off days - let's learn from this, keep our heads up and try again next week.

Scorpion of the week – Lucas

Volunteered to go in goal for the first half and did really well making some important saves. In the second half Lucas played in midfield and made some great runs and showed great strength on the ball. A great chance fell to him in the second half but the ball just wouldn't sit nicely for the strike, Well done.
