One way traffic as Scorpions dominate Danbury

Scorpions v Danbury and Bicknacre Blues

Archie
OG (Mason Assist)
Mason
Patrick

After a very lengthy lay off we were back in action today as we made our debut in the Dengie league. We knew it would be a tough introduction as we faced a very tough side who gave us the run-around just 12 months ago.

Expecting a cagey start we got the exact opposite as the Scorpions flew out of the traps making all the play. Almost the first passage of play saw Jake M play a lovely through ball to Archie but his shot was well saved. The resulting corner was whipped in from Mason but no one could get on the end of it. A very encouraging start from the blues.

The Scorpions continued to press and it was an inspired Danbury keeper that was keeping the scores on level terms as shots from Jake M, Mason and Archie were all kept out.

A rare venture forward for Danbury saw them earn a corner but it was dealt with easily by the back pairing of Poyraz and Caspar, and another counter attack attack saw Jake M pass into Mason, but the resulting shot went just wide. Another shot, this time from Caspar cannoned off the keeper but Archie just couldn't follow up.

We were witnessing one of the most one sided 0-0's I have ever seen and we were starting to wonder if it was going to be one of those days.
With Jake B coming off the bench he instantly started to stretch the Danbury defence and with Archie finding himself in space he smashed a shot which hit the upright. Another good run from Jake B didn't result in a shot, but it was all Scorpions.
FINALLY the deadlock was broken, Archie on the left wing cut inside and hit a powerful diagonal shot into the corner - the Scorpions were off and running 1-0 HT

At half time the boys were told to keep concentrating and to keep doing what they were doing and the second half was really just a continuation of the first. Some early pressure resulted in another corner and a beautifully whipped in ball from Mason was right on the money with an OG making it 2-0.

A rare foray from Poyraz saw him carry the ball around 40 yards and his determined nature saw him through on goal, but his shot which deserved more was saved well from the keeper. Another attack saw Jake B hit the post and another mazy run from Jake B saw him through on goal, but his shot was hit over the bar.

Although it was all attack for most periods Poyraz, Caspar, George and Lucas alternating in defence were having to keep high levels of concentration and they were needed on multiple occasions to break up play and all did brilliantly today.
One rare attack from Danbury did result in a penalty for the away side, but with the commanding presence of Tor making himself big in the goal the ball was blasted well over.

More attacking pressure from the Scorpions finally got us our 3rd, with Mason tucking the ball home to put the result well beyond Danbury, who at this point were probably just wanting the final whistle.

The cherry on the cake for the Scorpions' performance was complete when Patrick hammered home a fine finish to make it 4-0 - Full Time

A truly exceptional performance from everyone wearing a Scorpion shirt today. George was excellent today playing in multiple different positions and being solid wherever he was asked to play - his corners were also absolutely brilliant. Jake M was running everywhere and is having to cover every blade of grass trying to command the centre of midfield, it's a tough job and he did brilliantly today as well. Tor had a relatively quiet day but his kicking and overall distribution were faultless. Connor, Patrick and Jake B put in a great shift and battled tirelessly and all the defensive line as mentioned were great. Mason found himself in some great positions and was looking very menacing up top. It was just a great day for every player wearing light blue.

Well done everyone let's take this into next week.

Scorpion of the match - Archie Webster

A great return from Archie today who was creating multiple headaches for the Danbury defence. His running with the ball and taking on players was opening up space and his fine finish to get us off the mark settled a lot of nerves (namely Becky and I!). His work rate couldn't be faulted and his eye for a pass is something he has added to his arsenal (sorry Jamie, couldn't resist). A great day for Archie and all of his team mates, well done.
