Iguanas started strongly with Lewis showing great strength on the ball and determination, supported by Cole and Jayden. Good defending by Dunmow denied us an early goal.
For the first few minutes of the game, Oliver wasn’t called upon in goal as much of the play was in the opposition half. Ethan was doing an excellent job holding his position and making it very difficult for Dunmow to find a way through, making some great tackles. Dunmow’s best chance came from a free kick which was well defended by Iguanas, with Cole organising a wall and repelling the threat, getting the ball back up front to Lewis.
Lewis and Cole were working hard to find a way through with Jayden making some good runs on the wing, but despite their efforts a goal eluded Iguanas. Then, against the run of play, Dunmow put a run together and sneaked a goal.
Jayden and Lewis came off for Zack and Rafe. Zack and Cole were working with each well and putting some nice passes together. A nicely taken free kick from Cole threatened to equal the score line, but it went wide.
Ethan and Cole made way for Lewis and Jayden. We missed Ethan’s focus in defence almost immediately with a second goal going to Dunmow. Oliver had his work cut out during an opposition spell of pressure, but he remained cool and collected making some great saves. Dunmow went three up just before half time with an unstoppable shot from outside the box.
Iguanas began the second half positively, with shots on goal by both Cole and Zack. The breakthrough came from a free kick; Zack fancied his chances and went for it, bringing the score line to 3-1. Invigorated by the goal, Iguanas confidence grew. Cole made an important clearance and the resulting throw lead to a great series of passes between Zack and Cole that was nearly rewarded with another goal.
Lewis, Zack and Cole continuing to push, with passes coming together and putting Dunmow under pressure. With Rafe and Jayden back on the pitch, a great opportunity fell to Lewis who seized the moment to make it 3-2. Jayden and Rafe were trying to get into wide positions to press for another, with Ethan holding his position well and allowing his team mates put some runs together.
As the the match drew to a close Dunmow began to get back some possession, and as ever Ethan was there focussed and ready to defend and made some crucial tackles. Oliver kept his concentration and made some brave saves in the closing minutes to keep the score line at 3-2.
Man of the Match - Ethan. Throughout the match Ethan stuck to his position and showed a very mature attitude in defence, ensuring that his goal keeper was protected and staying goal side, making some excellent tackles along the way. Congratulations Ethan and well done Iguanas!
