Stoke City started brightly and hit the crossbar after just 5 minutes. Bramford's shot from the edge of the box lacked enough dip to creep under the bar.
Khalsa struck back and enjoyed a number of positive moments and deservedly took the lead after just ten minutes when Woolston finished off a lovely cross from Austin-Short. Khalsa had more dangerous moments, with Becky Hall's attempt clattering off the crossbar from the edge of the box.
Unfortunately it was Stoke who got the next goal, levelling things up just before the half-hour mark when Holder finished off a freekick from close range. They then took the lead just two minutes later when Delle glided through the Khalsa defence and placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Khalsa started the second half brightly and hit back on 58th minute when Owen struck a powerful shot, giving the keeper no chance. Stoke re-gained the lead with just ten minutes to go when Wilshaw finished from close range.
Khalsa pulled it back with just two minutes of time added on, when Woolston got on the end of a cross by Weston and volleyed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-3.
Khalsa got the 4th goal on the 9th minute of ET, but after a delay and the ball hitting the back of the net the linesman put up his flag stating corner had gone out of play and come back in. This was bemusing to all and heartbreaking for the players, staff and fans. The game went immediately to a penalty shootout and Stoke City came out victorious winning 4-3 and won their 12th consecutive Ladies Challenge Cup.
Despite the disappointment with the final result, we were extremely proud of the players and staff and want to thank everyone who turned out to watch the final and get behind the team. The support was fantastic and the positive comments after the game were greatly received.
Well done to Rebecca Green (Dinx) for picking up player of the match.
