Women stay top with a 5-0 victory against Leek Town

Kelly Williams25 Mar - 22:30

Sporting Khalsa Women pick up an important three points on the road

The Women's side carried on their fantastic form and made it 7 games unbeaten in the league with a win away at Leek Town on Sunday.

After a frustrating first half with around 18 chances created Khalsa broke the deadlock on the 15th minute with a goal from Kennerley to give the side the advantage. Despite creating so many chances Leek had a great opportunity and chance to grab an equaliser just before half time when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Hall was alert and equal to the shot and made an excellent save to deny the home side.

After the break Khalsa pushed for a second but Leek were not going to give the visitors an easy ride and competed well, however on 57 minutes, Kennerley grabbed her second of the game.

With a strong bench Khalsa were able to introduce top goal scorer Walker to the game who made an impact soon after coming on, grabbing a brace. The first came in the 68th minute and the second in the 72nd minute of the game.

Just 3 minutes later Smith grabbed the 5th which sealed the win and the three points.

They have just three league games of the campaign left and are in a closely contested title race. Loughborough Lightening are a point below Sporting Khalsa with a game in hand so every game is a must win for both sides in the final run in as only one team can be promoted to the FAWNL Northern Division (Tier 3).

The final home game of the campaign is on Sunday 31st March (Easter Sunday), 2pm at the Guardian Warehousing Arena where they face Lincoln City Women. Lincoln are a strong side and like everyone in the division will be looking to finish their campaign as strongly and achieve the best possible finish for their side.

We would really appreciate your support this weekend.
