The captain reflects on Saturday's result...

Sam Staunton-Turner still believes that this Squires Gate side will come good, despite losing five of the opening six games of the new campaign.

"It's not something we have taken lightly as a group. We have not been good enough, and it's as simple as that. Yes, we have shown signs of what we are capable of but we are not getting the points on the board and that's all that counts at the end of the day." said the captain.

"I do believe that we will still come good. I know that every team in this league brings a different challenge, but it has been a really difficult start for us. We've played four of our opening games away, as well as the two FA Cup games, and the FA Vase game so out of our nine fixtures; only two have been on our pitch."

"It's no excuse as if we want to achieve our targets, we need to be winning home and away, and not just relying on picking up points on our own turf. But you can see from our results, that we are very hard to beat at home."

Gate have played against two of the promotion favourites in the space of five days and they were on the end of two completely different results. Sam explains what he thinks went wrong against Bootle.

"It's a bit frustrating. We went into the game on the back of a fantastic win against 1874, and then we were unsettled by their goal after 4 minutes. Going into the break 2-0 wasn't ideal, especially when they are a top club. You play like we did against them sort of sides and that's what happens. We only have ourselves to blame, but it won't happen again. I know I speak for every single one of the lads when I say that it hurt us."

"The win against 1874 Northwich on Tuesday night was impressive, and we had complete control of that first half. They got a hold of the game in the second, but we defended well and Jordan (Gidley) was superb in net. It'll be good to get back playing in front of our home crowd again, and give our supporters something to cheer about."

Sam has played a major part on and off the pitch for the club, and believes that crowds are improving week in, week out at The Brian Addison Stadium.

"It's definitely something that me and the lads have noticed at home games. We can see the amount of effort being put in off the pitch by everyone involved with the club and it's hugely appreciated by us. I know we are limited in terms of the number of supporters being allowed in, but the atmosphere being generated on matchdays is great. Thanks to everyone who has got down and supported us so far, and we are working hard to put things right on the pitch that's for sure."
