Fraser Morris gives us an update on Club matters and the transition from lock-down.

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well.

We start this month with the announcement that the RFU have published their return to rugby road-map for the community game. The road-map has six stages and follows roughly the same timeline as the national easing of restrictions although no specific dates have been provided for the latter steps. As of today we are at stage D1 below:

D1 - from 29th March
Ready 4 Rugby and some contact training
Contact training (excluding Scrum and Maul)
Ready for Rugby, Touch and Tag Matches against other clubs

D2 - from 26th April
Adapted Law Matches
Contact training (excluding Scrum and Maul)
Adult and Age Grade Rugby with adapted laws (No Scrum and Maul)

E1 - Provisionally when Step 3 of government road-map reached (not before)
Full contact training
Full contact training (including Scrum and Maul)

E2 - 2 weeks after stage E1 reached
Full contact matches
Adult Full contact matches, some off field restrictions still likely to apply

F - all restrictions lifted
Not before Step 4 of the government road-map reached (could be later)

The squad return to training on Tuesday and we have already begun building for next season with some new additions. We are delighted to announce that Foster Kavanagh will return after a few months away, Jack Revera joins from UCS and the Dan and Tom Toland have joined full time having trained with us last summer. Recruitment will continue for 2021/22 in the months ahead to add to the new additions from 2021 as we aim for another successful season.

Looking ahead the club has two tournaments in the calendar already with the Hitchin 10s on August 14th and Harpenden National Pub Sevens on August Bank Holiday weekend. There are a number of ongoing discussions with other local clubs to organise some Ready4Rugby and adapted contact fixtures in April and May. We will communicate fixture dates as they are confirmed.

Away from the pitch we have continued with our Sponsors Spotlight feature, thank you again to all of our sponsors who have contributed, the content has been fantastic and it is great to work with our partners to support and promote local businesses.

This month also saw the launch of our 50/50 club raffle. The purpose of this is to raise funds for new post pads as our old ones need to be replaced for next season. The aim is to sell 50 tickets at £50 each (limited to one ticket per sponsor). The winner will then be drawn out of the hat and will get their company's name on the 1st XV post pads. Thank you to AS Homes & Construction, Moveology, Think Hire, Lister Interiors Ltd, KG Electrical Contractors and Audus Kitchens for their donations to date. The winner will be announced at the end of next month and published in May's newsletter.

Stay safe everyone
