St. Albans travelled to Cheshunt RFC for the return fixture which had seen a narrow win for Saints back in October.
This time it was Cheshunt who claimed the victory but again it was by a slim margin of 8 - 3. The match was highly competitive, sometimes fractious, and littered with mistakes from both sides as the raw, damp conditions took their toll.
The home side won the game with a bit of quick thinking that saw a well placed cross field kick picked up by the Cheshunt winger who avoided the cover defence to score the only try of the match.
St. Albans had their moments but failed to find the finishing that could have made all the difference, as poor passing and handling let them down. It wasn't all gloom though as the Saints pack showed again why they are such a potent force in this League, flanker Sam Lowery had an excellent game and the ever able Mike Bennet made his presence felt. Skipper Brent Lemiere led from the front, as he constantly showed his teammates the way forward.
The last ten minutes of the game were almost one-way traffic for St. Albans as they desperately strove to secure the potential winning points. Cheshunt held on, and despite losing a player to a red card offence kept their try line in tact to secure the victory. St. Albans collected a losers "bonus point" but were left to reflect on what might have been.
