Saints loose out to a well drilled Stevenage side in a high scoring game.

The last game of the season, pride and local rivalry to the fore. An entertaining match until the last quarter when St. Albans were reduced to twelve players after the referee brandished three "yellow cards" in quick succession. Stevenage were then able to consolidate their advantage and run out worthy winners 50-32.

In game of fourteen try's, eight to Stevenage, six to St. Albans the action was pulsing. Saints took the lead with a Fraser Morris try, the home side quickly responded with two of their own before Sam Millicheap got St. Albans back into it with a fine effort. Stevenage then went further ahead with another converted try, however Fraser Morris was then on hand to grab his second try on the afternoon. Not to be out done the "quicksilver" scrum half of Stevenage darted through the Saints defence just on the stroke of halftime. At the break it was 28-15, but the real difference was that the Town side were kicking their goals whereas Saints missed all their chances including a penalty.

Within five minutes of the restart, St. Albans closed the gap further as replacement Jeremy Walmsley got a characteristic score following a strong run. As if scripted, Stevenage then added another score to push their advantage to 33-20. Back came the visitors as Walmsley bagged his second try of the game, this time it was converted and the margin moved to 33-27.

The talented Stevenage back line again showed their worth as they crafted another move and crossed the visitors line for an unconverted score, 38-27. It was shortly after this that the game lost it's purpose as a meaningful rugby match, with the "binning" of three St. Albans players for various perceived misdemeanours in the space of sixty seconds.

The home side then ran in two further converted try's, interspersed by a hard earned Saint's score from the excellent Sam Lowery.
It was a shame that it had to finish in such a disappointing manner but for an hour it was good value and great entertainment as both sides played with determination and no little commitment.

Oh well, roll on next season!
