St Albans 2nds continued their good season of rugby with a good routing of Cheshunt. From the kick off great pressure was applied by the forwards, as the aggressive St Albans pack pounded the visitors' line. New full back Kevin Lynam nearly opened his account but his chip ahead was too strong and rolled dead.
Saints prop Harry Toland was first to crash over for a score, soon followed by a brace of tries from no.8, John Sayers. Keegan Cyrus caught a sweet pass from Kevin Lynam and was sadly injured as he got his score.
At 22-0 Cheshunt suddenly woke up and a sweet inside pass saw their captain go in unopposed under the post.
22-7 game on!
More forward pressure earned George Stephenson a scoreand the half ended 29-7.
The second half had Cheshunt again under the cosh but a failed line out was brilliantly turned over and the visitors scored from a scrum at the other end.
29-14.
By half way through the second half St Albans were down to 13 men as Sayers, Tom, Bill Harris, Keegan and Dougie all left the field injured. Joe Nelson, who had kicked all the conversions so far had another to take as he latched onto a way ward pass and sprinted 70 yards to score. He could be forgiven missing!
35-14
Last try was made for Kevin Lynam as the full back who had run so strongly all game smoothly linked up with Duncan Sharp and powered past any opposition. Great score!
A final score of 42-14 was a fantastic marker from the team. Dan Chalkley has a great work ethic instilled in his players and this should be evident against Berkhamsted (away) this Saturday.
