CHESHAM 2 36 - ST ALBANS 3S 7

Thanks to Saracens/Leicester at Wembley on a match day AND Tom Grover's wedding, St Albans were bereft of players. We were not alone in this calamity. Kingsclere RFC, the other visiting team, were asking US for players in the changing rooms before the match and indeed, Chesham were also without 35 availabilities. Kingsclere were beaten 130 - 7. thanks Premiership Rugby!

We had 14 on the sheet. We started with 13 with Dr Sullman at scrumhalf, Jamie Good from Touch and "Vidal" Sassoon Moscofian straight from Saturday morning detention. Chesham were gentlemanly and started with 14 (they had two subs). The game was a tussle of tackles and Chesham played the referee a lot better than we did. There is no ill will in this statement, but it goes against the rules of the RFU to ask to be taught this tactic at training! Nevertheless, STA3 defended resolutley and eventualy the overlap was in place and Ches scored. Then a moment of madness from Mick athooker with a throw in to no-one in particular, Ches pounced and scored again. Ches added a penalty before Paul Randal was able to score for us in the corner, a drive followed by ball through the hands. Then Uberkind, Jackson Cooper-Wall fianlly turned up and we were on the attack again. lots of good breaks were made, but the Chesham tackling was very good and all further attempts were snuffed out. The STA3 tackling throughout was good, but we were poor in the counter-ruck area and although Dr Sullman played well, his flanker like attacks often meant we were without a scrumhalf for a few moments and Ches would recover the ball. Our fault not his!

Ches scored some good tries, but they scored a few terrible ones as well. I was guilty of one, the bounce of the ball another.
