Harpenden entertained a St Albans RFC 3rds side who were there to enjoy the day. Both sides competed strongly and the teams went at each other for the full 80 minutes. Old hands sometimes means "Old hands" and to both front rows delight, many a scrum ensued.
Jude Evans scored a brace of tries, Oli Brown rampaged over for his and Twinkletoes finished off a hands down the line move to scamper over for the final score. Alex Gee had a try disallowed as his reaching hand dot down was unseen by the ref, but he took it on the chin and got back into the game.
Well done them.
Harpenden scored a great try whilst having a man in the bin, so their heads didn't drop throughout.
Well done them.
The refereeing by Mike Skeels was of the moment and even though he was being assessed, directed the flow of the game to the players' abilities and not what "You might see on telly."
Well done him.
It was great to see players on both sides who had been out of the loop for many years back on the pitch.
Donald Onyuma and Barry Wainright both enjoying the full 80 minutes.
Rob Saunders made a strong impression at no.10 (same blue and gold, just different stripes).
More games of this type are hopefully the future of Grassroots Rugby in Hertfordshire.
