St Albans played a real humdinger of a fixture against Barnet. We did just about everything right and didn't come away with a win. Try as they might the Barnet whitewash couldn't be broken through until the second half effort of Bill Harris, who showed and goed and dotted down under the posts, James Thompson converting. Really we fell short in the tackling, where we had been on the front foot before, momentary lapses let their big bruiser "Arnie" in three times.
Next week is Biggleswade away. We'll have to be on top form for that fixture.

Three on the bounce for the 3rd XV !
by Peter Yates
Postponed from the week before, by mutual consent, the 3rd XV recorded their third successive Merit Table win on Saturday, making it five out of six.
It seems that skipper and all round nice guy George was a bit put out by the last match report on account of it suggesting that his younger brother had outplayed him at Hertford. Let me say this first: on Saturday, at St Albans, George was flawless - not a missed tackle or dropped ball all day and no letting up in his task for the full 80.
Games against St A's are always odd - they lurk towards the bottom of the league but seem to perform against BE. We expected a tought, tight, game and were not disappointed. SA set out their stall from the off with powerful runs coming at BE from every angle throughout. Truth be told, they dominated possession and will have been disappointed that they didn't make it count. That they didn't is down to the 15 BE men working their proverbials off in defence. That PHANOS LOUCA remarked to Iain Sutherland that he had his usual five tackles a game within five minutes was an indication of SA's game plan, It would be wrong to single out anyone for special attention, when the effort as a team-wide, but ARNIE HIXSON's holding up of the SA centre on the line and ALI MAC's and JAMIE P's ferocious tackling, in the middle, cannot really go unmentioned, especially as ALI might not have understood the "let them down gently" law.
