Daniels Off The Bottom…Again

Richard Curtis2 Feb - 22:45

Stamford recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they edged out AFC Sudbury.

The Daniels initially named the same starting eleven from the win over Worcester City but were forced into a late change when Connor Bartle picked up an injury during the warmup. He was replaced by Joshua Carvallo for his first start for Stamford.

There was an early chance for Stamford when a free kick was fired goalwards by Ryan Wilson, but Jack Munson was able to save. Wilson then had a shot which was blocked by the Sudbury defence.

Sudbury’s first shot came after fourteen minutes, when Kien Connolly had a shot which was saved by Tom Jackson. Then Stamford counter-attacked and a cross from the right found Wilson at the back post and his shot went into the side netting. Marcel Lewis then had a shot which Tom Jackson was able save.

Stamford then opened the scoring on thirty-one minutes. A cross from Charlie Marzano found new Daniels frontman Leon Lobjoit and although his initial shot was blocked, he was able to stab home the loose ball.

With half time approaching, Lobjoit had a shot which sailed over the bar.

Into the second half and Sudbury equalised after fifty minutes when Marcel Lewis advanced towards the Daniels goal and struck a shot from distance and the ball flew into the Stamford goal.

Sudbury then took the lead a minute later when Callum Page got down the left and fired a shot past Jackson.

This shook the Daniels and Sudbury enjoyed a period of dominant possession as Stamford tried to find a way back into the game.

On sixty-three minutes, Stamford got themselves level when a goalmouth scramble following a corner and it was Jack Duffy to score his second goal since returning from suspension.

Lobjoit then had an effort which was well saved by Munson. Then Sudbury had a chance which was saved by Jackson.

With fifteen minutes, Stamford retook the lead when substitute Kai Tonge went down the right wing and his cross found Lobjoit who finished low past the Sudbury keeper.

Late on Stamford almost had a fourth when Alex Collard met a corner and his header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Munson.
