Lobjoit Double Secures Win

Richard Curtis11 Mar - 21:27

The Daniels moved within two points of safety as they gained all three points at AFC Sudbury.

With both teams in the relegation zone, both sides were desperate to win.

There was one change from the side that started against Barwell with Mike Armstrong coming in for the injured Alex Collard.

Stamford had the first shot of the game when an effort from Kai Tonge was saved by Liam Coyne in the home goal.

Then Sudbury looked to open the scoring when Harvey Peters had a shot which was deflected wide. Then Leon Lobjoit pressured Coyne whose hurried clearance struck the Daniels frontman but bounced out of play.

Lobjoit then had another effort which was blocked for a corner before he opened the scoring on twenty-nine minutes when he harassed a Sudbury defender and the ball went loose and he lashed the ball into the net.

In first half injury time Jack Stone powered a header towards goal which Tom Jackson was able to save.

Into the second half and Sudbury got themselves level on fifty-one minutes. A corner from the right was delivered and flicked on at the near post and their captain Jake Turner was able to score at the back post.

Then Kai Tonge was denied a goal for Stamford after he rounded the keeper on fifty-seven minutes, but Peters cleared the ball off the line.

Then Jack Keeble met a corner, but his header went wide of the post.

Stamford claimed their second on seventy-three minutes when a swift counterattack from Lobjoit and he found Tonge and he stroked the ball into the net.

As the game entered the final ten minutes, Sudbury looked for an equaliser. First Liam Pearce broke down the right and fired a shot at the Daniels goal but Jackson was able to block and thankfully for Stamford there was no one from Sudbury to get to the ball.

Then Charlie Lewis fired a shot which Jackson was able to save before Pearce again had an effort which went over the bar.

The game was sealed in injury time when Lobjoit collected a poor Sudbury clearance and despite calls from the Stamford faithful to go to the corner he unleashed a shot which dipped over Coyne and into the net.
