A feisty game ends in opposite result to last time, as Stamford beat Romulus 4-2. Writes Stephen Breden

The game followed the same pattern as the previous result, just with the two teams reversed as the Daniels were 3-0 up before the break, with the game ending 4-2. Unfortunately a great game of football may have been overshadowed by Jordan Smith and Malachi Farquharson being sent off following a late brawl but it was the actions of Graham Deakin that ruffled the most feathers in his battles with Rogan McGeorge.

Three minutes in and Stamford took the lead, the front three combined perfectly with Jordan Hempenstall playing Courtney Meade in down the left hand side, he cut back and crossed to Jordan Smith whose header was low and went into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance. Six minutes later Stamford had another strong chance as loanee Danny Draper shot from the edge of the box, but this was an easy save for the Romulus keeper, down to his right. Liam Marshall crossed to Jordan Hempenstall on the 14th minute, his header crashed off the bar before coming to Courtney Meade who had his header cleared off the line and out for a corner. Jordan Smith had a free header from an expertly delivered corner kick by Jake Duffy and he didn’t make any mistake scoring his and the teams second.

On the 25th minute Courtney Meade ran down the left wing, he crossed to Jordan Hempenstall who won the first header then turned and slotted the ball into the back of the net making it three nil. A few minutes later Hempenstall was involved again but his long range effort was an easy save. A third of the way through the game Courtney Meade got some more joy down the left, he beat two men but his shot was an easy save for Romulus’s keeper Leighton Smith. Ten minutes before the break Rogan McGeorge volleyed from range but this went just over the bar.

That was it before the break but Stamford came out in a similar fashion after it. Just a minute after the kick off Liam Marshall laid the ball inside to Jordan Hempenstall whose shot, with the outside of his boot, went just wide. On the 60th minute Jordan Smith went close to securing his hat-trick as he won a fifty-fifty ball in the middle before controlling but his shot was scuffed just wide of the post. Following this miss Courtney Meade was replaced by John King.

On the 64th minute a free kick came into the Stamford box and after the defence failed to defend it; Jordan Francis looped a long range header into the back of the net, giving Romulus a route back into the game. Six minutes later Romulus had a second despite only having one shot in the game. A free kick was whipped into the box, Danny Draper tried to deal with it but only ended up putting the ball past, player of the month for the last five months, Sam Donkin. With just five minutes left to go the game was killed off with a Jake Duffy goal from a free kick, he curled it in and no-one got a touch on it in the centre and the keeper was caught unawares by it and it nestled into the bottom corner.
