New signing Liam Adams, on loan from Boston, had the first chance of the game just one minute in but could only shoot wide having cut inside from the wing. On the ninth minute Delroy Gordon received the ball from a Jake Duffy corner but could only shoot over. Two minutes late Jak Jeys cut inside from the wing but again the shot went wide.
With a quarter of an hour played Loughborough had their first chance as Carl Sibson shot wide following a scramble after a corner. Two minutes later Liam Adams connected with a Jordan Smith cross but it was comfortably saved by the keeper.
On the 24th minute Paolo Pilero volleyed from range but it was easily saved by Max Smith-Varnam in the Stamford goal. Eight minutes later an Eliot Putman free-kick was well saved by Will Jaaskelainen. Carl Demidh had the next chance of the game as he cut inside from the right wing but couldn’t get his shot on target.
Before the break the visitors looked to change the half time team talk but Liam Adam had his shot deflected over and Henry Eze, who met Jake Duffy’s corner, could only head wide.
Two minutes after the break Jordan Smith flicked on a long ball to Liam Adams who cut inside and shot but Jaaskelainen, despite getting a hand to it, couldn’t keep it out. Seven minutes later Liam Adams volleyed from just outside the area but this went wide. With thirty minutes to go Jak Jeys was replaced by John King. Four minutes later and Loughborough were level as Alistair Smith cleverly flicked the ball goalwards from a cross.
With eighteen minutes to go Loughborough had the lead as Carl Demidh cut inside and fired in a great shot, from around 25 yards out, straight into the top corner. Three minutes later Jordan Smith was replaced by Sam Hollis. With twelve minutes to go a Jake Duffy free-kick was blocked by Carl Sibson.
Mike Armstrong was then replaced by Jon Challinor. In the last five minutes Loughborough peppered the Stamford goal searching for their third which did eventually come. Firstly, Alistair Smith shot wide after cutting in from the wing.
Then Ash Hodgkinson forced a great save out of Smith-Varnam from a tight angle. From the resulting corner Carl Sibson thundered a header off the bar. The final chance of the game came to Loughborough and they did get their third as Paolo Pilero tapped in after Smith-Varnam fumbled the ball in the goal mouth.
