Two top-drawer finishes from Tom Siddons and Rob Morgan plus a first goal of the season for Jordon Cooke helped fire the Daniels to a 3-0 victory over promotion rivals Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Zeeco Stadium on Saturday.

The duo netted a pair of sublime second half strikes before Cooke's injury-time close range finish as the Daniels defied the start of Storm Dennis to claim a crucial BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division victory.

Stamford's got their management of the game, which was played in horrendous conditions, spot on against a Stocksbridge side who arrived on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run.

They defended the elements in the opening period to keep Stocksbridge at bay with a calm and collective performance before going on the offensive after the break with an accomplished attacking display.

With James Hicks and Harry Limb both struggling to shake off injuries, Dec'Hare was handed a start in the only change to Stamford's starting line-up from their vital victory at Cleethorpes a fortnight ago.

Stamford played into the worst of the driving rain and howling wind in the opening period which forced Dan Haystead in the home goal to be alert on numerous occasions.

Haystead had to back-pedal quickly to grab a wind-assisted clearance from Steels skipper Liam McFadyen.

Former Daniels defender Jordan Lemon then tried his luck with a long distance free-kick which Haystead had to tip to safety at full stretch.

Stamford played the better football of the two sides in the awful conditions and had the best chance of the opening half.

Siddons' pressure forced Jacob Carney in the Stocksbridge goal to spill the ball but, after working himself some space in the box, an under pressure O'Hare shot wide.

Tendai Chitiza went down in the penalty area under a challenge from Josh Nodder but tentative appeals for a spot kick were waved away.

Nodder then went close at the other end as he flashed a free-kick wide to ensure the opening period finished goalless.

Stamford started the second half brightly with O'Hare and Chitiza linking well in the early exchanges.

Chitiza fired a shot wide of the far post after neat inter-play with O'Hare who then tested Carney but the young Manchester United loanee was equal to the shot.

Carney was then grateful to his captain McFadyen for clearing off the line after the Steels goalkeeper had spilled a shot from Chitiza.

That spell of pressure continued and prompted Stamford to break the deadlock after 55 minutes.

Morgan's quick free-kick played in Chitiza whose cross into the box was only scrambled clear as far as Siddons who thrashed home an unstoppable finish.

Morgan was then influential at the other end as Steels responded with the Daniels midfielder making a crucial clearance off the line at the back post from Luke Mangham's goalbound free-kick.

Stamford quickly turned defence into attack with Harry Vince picking out substitute Ollie Brown-Hill - on for the injured O'Hare - but his shot was deflected wide of the far post.

The Daniels continued to look the more threatening going forward and wrapped the match up with 15 minutes remaining.

Brown-Hill's precise threaded pass released Morgan and, after rounding Carney, he clipped home a superb finish from the acutest of angles to double the lead.

Siddons and Chitiza both went close to increasing the deficit before Cooke claimed the third goal in injury-time.

Substitute Jon Challinor made a strong run before pulling the ball back to the far post where the on-rushing Cooke cracked home the finish from close range to seal a solid Stamford success.
