Stamford dropped more points against a side fighting for survival after sharing the spoils in a 2-2 home draw with Soham Town Rangers on Saturday.

The draw was Stamford's second stalemate with sides in the bottom two of the table following last month's point at Histon and saw them unable the most of defeats for three of the four sides above them in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division table.

Soham had taken a shock third minute lead through Joe Carden which was cancelled out by Tendai Chitiza's first half equaliser. Substitute Zayn Hakeem then put Stamford ahead in the second period before Alfie Conner levelled from the penalty spot with 12 minutes remaining after a foul that saw Stamford skipper Mike Armstrong red-carded.

The Greens had arrived at the Zeeco Stadium bottom of the table and without picking up a point since a 1-1 draw with Chasetown at the beginning of October. Stamford, on the other hand, were on a nine-match unbeaten run that had taken them into the play-off places.

But it was the visiting Greens who turned the form-book upside down in the early exchanges as they took a third minute lead. A long ball cleared the Daniels' defence that was latched onto by Joe Carden who raced clear before slotting his shot past Dan Haystead in the home goal.

The early goal disrupted the Daniels' usual rhythm as Soham, to their credit, refused to let Stamford have time on the ball. The Daniels did exert plenty of pressure with Jack Duffy going close to converting a Chitiza cross that just evaded the incoming Stamford forward.

Morgan then headed over from a Jack Duffy cross while Harry Vince saw a fierce strike blocked before Stamford levelled after 25 minutes with a top-drawer equaliser. Chitiza cut in from the right before unleashing a sublime finish that flew into the far corner of Finley Iron's goal.

The goal failed to rock Soham though who stuck to their game-plan and upped the work-rate to keep Stamford at bay while looking threatening on the counter-attack as the half finished all square. Stamford introduced Hakeem at the interval, in place of Morgan, and created some early chances after the break.

Jack Duffy saw a header cleared off the line before Connor Bartle drilled a shot just wide of the far post. Stamford then hit the front just past the hour mark when Bartle's long throw into the box was flicked on for Hakeem to turn home from close range.

Hakeem then had a great chance to put the contest out of the visitors' reach following a fine run from fellow substitute Rodrigo Goncalves but he dragged his shot wide with just Iron to beat.

And Soham made the Daniels pay as they hit Stamford with a double whammy after 78 minutes.

Ben Seymour-Shove was hauled down after breaking clear by Armstrong who was red-carded and Conner converted the resultant spot kick with 12 minutes remaining.

Both sides then had chances to win the contest with Stamford scrambling clear from a Soham corner before substitute Joe Butterworth saw his strike held by Iron.

Seymour-Shove saw an effort saved by Haystead while Hakeem headed home wide from a high Bartle before James Blunden went close in injury time only to be denied by a fine fingertip save from Iron.
