Stansfeld/Eltham Palace recorded their biggest win of the season, when they beat bottom placed Lewisham Borough in the SCE Division 1 at Ladywell Arena on Saturday.
Stansfeld got off to a very poor start and were behind after only 4 minutes, Lewisham's Jamie Richards broke down the right wing before cutting into the box and unleashing a powerful shot, that beat Stansfeld stopper George Lush on his near post. But Stansfeld were back level on 12 minutes when Bill Jolley brilliantly got a free-kick from 25-yards up and over the wall and into the top left-hand corner of the net for his 12th goal of the season.
Stansfeld's lead was short lived though as on 20 minutes referee Josh Smith awarded a spot kick to Lewisham when he adjudged Jesse Thackham to have fouled Reece Smith in the box. Walker sent Lush the wrong with his spot kick. In a topsy turvy game Stansfeld were back level again on 30 minutes when Jack Gibbons buried a close range shot, after a scramble in the box.
Stansfeld got their noses in front for the first time 5 minutes before the break. Ryan Hassan superbly controlled a long ball out of defence, before beating his marker and calmly curling a shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net, as the keeper tried to close him down.
Stansfeld came out for the second half full of confidence and it wasn't long before they made it 4-2. Billy Shinners nodded a deep cross to the far post back across the face of the goal for Hassan to tap in his second goal of the game.
Lewisham's heads started to drop after this setback and Stansfeld, now with the bit between their teeth pushed forward relentlessly and they were soon rewarded again, this time young Max Richards bent a superb shot into the top left-hand corner of the net from the edge of the box.
With the game now pretty much over as a contest Stansfeld showed no mercy and with 15 minutes remaining Shinners got the goal his efforts deserved, when he calmly slotted the ball past the advancing Lewisham keeper from just inside the box, when put through one on one.
With the end of the game fast approaching Richards put the icing on the cake when scored his 2nd and Stansfeld's 7th goal of the game after he shimmied past 2 defenders in the box before curling an unstoppable shot into the top left-hand corner of the net.
