Stapenhill rue last minute penalty miss as they have to share the points with Radcliffe.

STAPENHILL bounced back from their 7-0 midweek East Midlands Counties League Cup thrashing at Holbrook to share the points with Radcliffe Olympic.

Karl Wayte hit a double and Jamie Disney netted from the spot for the Swans, with Adam Newbold, Kenneth Reeves and Ryan Plummer replying for the visitors.

But it was a case of two points dropped for Steve Gough's hard-working side as they let a two-goal lead slip and Disney missed a penalty in the dying seconds.

Olympic keeper Hadlee Dunne was soon in action saving at the feet of Disney. Then an in-swinging corner from Nathan Rolph was headed just wide by Wayte.

Brent Upton was a thorn in the side of full-back Robbie Williams and after outpacing him down the left, his dangerous cross was booted clear by Sam Adams.

Rolph then whipped in a corner which was cleared back to him. The full-back pinged it back in to Jacques Briscoe, who headed it back across the six yard box to Wayte, whose first time volley was beaten out by Dunne.

But the best chance fell to the visitors. Tom Ramshall picked out the unmarked Newbold, who glanced his header wide.

Matt Gamble then made room for himself only to blaze wildly over.

Back came the Swans, with another driving run from Upton ending with a clever reverse pass to send Disney clear but the striker's finish was never going to beat Dunne.

On 28 minutes, the Swans broke the deadlock. Alex Rowland drove the ball forward and Wayte pounced to slam the ball into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later, the visitors levelled. Jack Smith went down in the box under a challenge from Aaron Carvell and Newbold buried the spot kick.

Just before the break, the Swans had a half-chance when Rowland's free kick was met by Briscoe but his header went straight into the arms of Dunne.

The visitors started well after the break with Ramshall glancing a header wide before firing a free kick just over, and Newbold setting up Smith who failed to hit the target.

At the other end, the dangerous Upton got to the by-line but his inviting low cross was booted over.

This was a good spell from the Swans with Wayte holding the ball up well before releasing Asa Sippits, but Winch recovered well to shepherd the ball back to Dunne.

But the winger would not be denied, and after jinking his way into the box he hit the deck under a clumsy challenge from Ramshall. Disney hammered the spot kick past the keeper.

Aggrieved at what they thought was a soft penalty, Olympic responded, and Ben Gough had to be at his best to save from Smith, with Newbold's follow up blocked and Jake Morris putting the second rebound wide.

Back came the Swans with Briscoe hitting Sippits who set up Danny Gilligan, but the midfielder was denied by Dunne.

The belief was short-lived, however, for minutes later, the Swans increased their lead. Disney found Wayte whose overhead bicycle kick from close range gave Dunne no chance.

But again the Swans failed to hold on to their two-goal lead and two minutes later the visitors reduced the deficit. Newbold played in Reeves who stretched out a leg to poke the ball off the inside of Gough's left-hand post and into the net.

At the other end, Jordan Stevens exchanged passes with Sippits before his fierce goalbound shot was acrobatically tipped over by Dunne.

The visitors were always dangerous on the break, with Gamble whipping the ball into Reeves, who headed straight at Gough.

His counterpart Dunne also did well to beat out Disney's near-post header after good work from Harry Austin. Disney then chased down a long clearance and went one-on-one with the keeper but could not beat him.

The Swans should have put the game beyond the visitors with two decent chances. Disney cut along the by-line and set up Austin, whose shot was deflected over. Then, Sippits got along the by-line before laying it back to Gilligan, who fired over.

Failure to convert these chances proved costly, for a minute from time, the visitors levelled.

A long clearance from Dunne flicked off the top of Briscoe's head and Plummer was on it like a flash, holding off a late challenge from Richard Perry to smash an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

The drama was only just beginning, with Disney scythed down in the box by keeper Dunne who, having already picked up an earlier yellow card for handling outside his area, was handed a second yellow, followed by a red from referee Steven Thompson.

Defender and captain Sam Winch took the jersey, and saved Disney's penalty with his feet.
