Saints bring home the points in tough test at Llanrug

Llanrug Utd 0 St. Asaph City 1
A late Chris Bennett goal was enough to give the Saints their 3rd win in a row and inflict a first home defeat of the season on a high quality Llanrug side. In a scrappy game on a tight pitch against a strong team, Saints had to again show the character and spirit that saw them progress in recent cup competitions to take home the points. In a game of few chances for both sides, Saints started well but were restricted to long range efforts from Jake Walker and John Terry while Llans Dylan Owen was causing problems for the Saints with two good efforts going close to open the scoring. Neither side broke the deadlock in the first half and the scrappy theme continued throughout the second half with both teams battling for every ball but the Saints eventually made the break through on 79 minutes when substitute Aiden Bell smashed a long range effort that Goalkeeper Mark Owen could not hold and Chris Bennett won the race to the ball to finish sharply. Llan through everything at Saints for an equalizer but with keeper Luke Jones and Defenders Jon Taylor and Josh Jones in fine form, City hung on to take the points and a considerable scalp. One note worthy of mention was the impeccable minutes silence by both teams in honor of Nigel Owen who's son Jordan is a regular for St. Asaph.
