After the pre-season training and a great education day at Truro, it was time to put things to the test in the Saints U9s' first game of the season at home to Perranporth.
The (almost) balmy temperatures somewhat belied the mid-October date and some of the foulness the players have been training in over the last few weeks! So it made a change to get things going in near perfect conditions.
What followed was an excellent game involving two teams that were committed to playing some really good rugby - and enjoying themselves to the max!
Everyone in the Saints team acquitted themselves to the contact version of the game superbly and it was wonderful to see everything they have been learning take shape in the heat of battle. Any knocks or bumps were brushed to one side in a manner in keeping with the shape of the ball! Special mention to Ryan, Matthew and Jacob for getting up and getting stuck back in in this regard!!
Player of the match was Josh for some excellent all round play including tackling, organising his defensive line and some nice tries. However, in truth everyone was brilliant and any one would have deserved the accolade. The tackling and commitment shown by all the Saints was brilliant - Perranporth came to play and deserve every credit for some excellent tackling themselves. There were some great tries scored by both sides in a real end-to-end encounter.
Well done Brewers - thank you for a great game.
It all made for a wonderful morning for all involved and has definitely whet the appetite for the rest of the season. COYS!!!
