Papa Johns Community Cup campaign starts with an exciting home game this Saturday 13/04/2024 - Kick Off 2pm

The Saints have been drawn in Pool 4 of the Regional 1 Plate competition in the 2024 Papa Johns Community Cup. Lady luck has finally shone on the Saints with two home games at Tregorrick in the three-match group stage sandwiching one long away trip.

Match sponsorship opportunities are available for both home games so please speak to Michelle if you are interested!

Saturday 13th April 2024 – Saints v Old Northamptonians RFC – Kick-off at 2pm

First up are Old Northamptonians RFC, who will be making their first ever visit to Tregorrick. The two sides almost met at Twickenham in the Papa Johns Community Cup in the Final of last year’s Regional 2 Championship Competition. The Saints just missed out in a nail-biting semi-final, and it was Horsham RFC who made it to RFU HQ.

Like the Saints, the ONs were promoted to Level Five after a promotion winning season in 2022-23 and finished 9th in Regional 1 South East with 9 wins and 13 defeats. They managed to record 10 try scoring bonus points through the campaign suggesting an attacking style of play so an exciting game is in prospect.

Please note - there is NO pre-match lunch before the game but Pearce's Pasties will be on sale.

ONs Fund Raising for Brain Tumour Research

A team of 4 (2 cyclists & 2 support crew) are taking on the mammouth challenge of cycling from Old Northamptonians Rugby Club to St Austell Rugby Club to help support Ben Rivans’ London Marathon Campaign, raising valuable funds for the Brain Tumour Research.

A huge journey of 285 miles which the cyclists hope to achieve in just 53 hours!!

Day 1 - Setting off at 8am on Thursday with 105 miles in front of them to make it to Corsham. Day 2 - Heading off at 8am again with the small matter of 124 miles with a stop at Okehampton.
Day 3 - The final and probably most brutal stage begins with a 6am start with 56 miles to complete and 4,700 feet of climbing with the goal to make it to St Austell for 1pm.

Anyone wishing to donate to their campaign can do so through their Just Giving page

Saturday 20th April 2024 – Tring RFC v Saints – Kick-off at 2pm

The second round of matches sees the Saints make the 290-mile trek up to Hertfordshire to take on Tring RFC.

Another Club we will be playing for the first time, Tring are experienced operators at Level Five having first gained promotion in 2026-17. This season they finished in 8th place in Regional 1 South East with 10 wins and 51 points.

The long trip means leaving Cornwall on Friday 19th April, with the WELCOME HOME INN Express departing at 16:00 and an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn, Farnborough.

After breakfast and check out, the team will then make the sixty-minute journey to Tring ready for the 2pm Kick Off.

After enjoying the after-match hospitality at Tring RFC’s Cow Lane Clubhouse, it is all aboard the WELCOME HOME INN Express and the simple matter of a five-hour journey home – let’s hope it is a winning bus!

WELCOME HOME INN Express

It is a hugely expensive trip – with coach costing over £2k and the hotel rooms and meals for the playing squad will see the total cost for the trip hit £4k with no financial support from the RFU.

Many thanks to Kenny and Sue Landlords at the Welcome Home Inn for their sponsorship and contribution the cost of the trip - it is very much appreciated!

If anyone else would like to provide some sposnorship then please contact Paul Hayes - exec@staustellrfc.co.uk 07515 881 799 to discuss.

We will make sure your company gets the right recognition across all three of the Papa Johns group games!

Please note - all the supporter packages for the trip are SOLD OUT!

Saturday 27th April 2024 – Saints v Lydney RFC – Kick-off at 3pm

The final group stage game is against more familiar foe when Lydney RFC “pop down” from Gloucestershire.

The Severnsiders finished one place above the Saints in Regional 1 South West by just five points or one bonus point win. The two sides enjoyed the proverbial game of two halves when they met in February. A rampant Saints raced into a 26-0 lead at the interval that perhaps should have been more such was the home side’s first half dominance.

It was all change in the second period, and languid third quarter was followed by a nerve jangling last 20 minutes with Lydney scoring four tries to make the score 26-24. The final whistle was the Saints’ saviour as they hung on to win an incredible game.

We will be offering a two-course pre-match lunch at £20 per seat or £15 for Members.

Secure your seats now by calling Michelle on 01726 76430 or via email rugby.events@staustellrfc.co.uk
