Saints start Christmas run-in with trip to Devon .
The Saints face two difficult away games as they look to maintain their pole position and finish 2022 top of the pile. First up is a trip to Teignmouth, who will be looking forward to avenging the 71-3 mauling they received at Tregorrick in September. The Saints were at their free-flowing best that day running in eleven tries in the warm sunshine and the wide expanses of the home paddock. Bitton Park is always a difficult place to visit, one of Devon’s iconic grounds, it is tight and compact, close to the river front and there always seems to be an icy blast coming in from the sea!
The Teigns have enjoyed something of a resurgence, having lost the opening five games of the season they have had a significant upturn in form which has seen them win five of their last seven games. The two most recent defeats have come away at Crediton (26-15) and Wellington (38-31), both difficult places to get a result. They have been unbeaten at home since overturning Wadebridge Camels 17-13 in October which has enabled them to steadily rise up the table to 7th place. The Teigns are the fifth highest points scorers and in fact have only failed to score a try in one game this season – guess where that was? So while attack is their strength, their Achilles Heal appears to be in defence where they have conceded the most points in league. There are numerous high scoring encounters in their result card to date so this could be an exciting game for those making the trip over the Tamar!
Daffodil Tours are organising a Jolly Boys and Girls Day Out in Teignmouth by Train.

The Counties 2 Cornwall game of the day as high-flying Veor come to Tregorrick
Fourth placed Sinners face third placed Veor at Tregorrick in the Counties 2 Cornwall game of the day. The two sides enjoyed a tight contest last September when Veor overcame a 26-5 deficit to grab victory in the last moments of the game. Defeat was hard on a young Sinners side, but Veor deserve great credit for finding away to win a game that at one stage looked beyond them.
The home side will be relishing the opportunity to make amends and will be bursting with confidence after last week’s win over Bodmin RFC. A bonus point win would see the Sinners go joint third with Veor, but the visitors have only lost two games this season (yes, you’ve guessed it! To runaway leader St Ives and second placed Saltash).
If you are not travelling to Teignmouth this is a game to watch!
First league win for Spartans!
The Spartans won their first Counties 4 Cornwall with an impressive win against East Cluster Barbarians in an entertaining game hosted at Bodmin RFC. In an innovative move, the Cornwall RFU has enabled the creation of two Barbarian style sides, one in the East and one in the West, to ensure as many players as possible get a chance to play. The East Cluster was made up of available players from various Clubs including Bodmin, Camelford, Liskeard-Looe, Saltash and Truro and they put in a great performance in an entertaining game.
The Spartans scored six tries with two apiece from Luke Ripley and Matt Trahair and one each from Reece Luke and Dan Haley. Tom Spry added a solitary conversion to make the final score 32-15 to the Spartans.
We are waiting for confirmation of who the Spartans will be facing this weekend

Volunteers
We never have enough of them, and we value immensely the ones that do step up. Al Cummins is the Supporters Club Director and volunteer coordinator, and he has done a magnificent job in recruiting the Saints Volunteers that help the match day run smoothly. For those with time to spare during the week there is the Saints Chain Gang that help with maintenance.
Want to get involved, make new friends and be part of something? Contact Al on 07902 216417 or email at alancummins@live.co.uk.
