Teignmouth visit Tregorrick Park this Saturday and the Saints are probably relieved to be back on home turf after three away games and only one at home in the opening rounds of the WCW league.
Teignmouth are the first team the Saints have encountered this season who have come down from SW1. They were last at level 7 in the 14-15 season when they won the league to go up.
So far this season they have taken a win at ‘tricky’ Kingsbridge, faltered to Honiton at home by 2 points, pipped Penryn at theirs and got a narrow win against Saltash. 72 points scored and 55 against. They sit in 4th in WCW one point above Camels.
Saints have done well so far. They have done well with some new home grown and imported players and by having to bring people up to fill positions when others aren’t available. The squad looks like it’s enjoying playing together and has been effective on the road. Last week saw them make the long trip to Wiveliscombe along with a good number of supporters. In an injury strewn 80 minutes they stuck to the task, clinically carving out a bonus point win, something that this season will count as the season comes to a close. In comparison with Teignmouth, Saints have scored 110 and conceded 56.
It’s going to be an enthralling match. Saints sit on joint top on WCW and Teignmouth not that far below and fresh from a higher league. This is a real test of our largely youthful side against a side with a similar defensive record. Can we open them up? Can we continue to defend strongly? Keep an eye on our social media on Friday morning when we will post Saturday’s team!
This match is kicking off at 2.30pm, 30 minutes earlier than usual for this time of year, due to the Anthony ‘Ginge’ Marshall memorial game kicking off on P1 straight after then the Ginger Ball at 7pm that many of the players of both games will be attending.
With the above in mind it’s worth taking a moment to think about how precious life is and how the ability to get out and about can be taken for granted. Let’s make the most of this Saturday by watching England beat Argentina (clubhouse open from 0815 and food available), then Saints v Teignmouth (who kindly agreed to the earlier kick off and we thank them for that) followed by, as close as we can get it, the last team Ginge played with versus a Vets Barbarian side. Its going to be a fun, exciting and poignant day of rugby for all involved whether on the pitch or off.
