It was a belated start to 2014 after last weeks postponed match, but new year same result as we go 8 games unbeaten.

This was the first round of the county cup, and a great team performance saw us into the hat for the second round draw. Having not played for three weeks and with only one short training session due to the festive period, and bad weather, there were not many signs of rustiness.

For the vast majority of this game the saints were dominate. We played the game in the oppositions half, and kept Bude to just a handful of forays into our half during the whole match. We dominated possession, and turned this into points at regular intervals. It was pleasing to see the link between forwards and backs far more fluid and effective. Sam and Todd were instrumental in dictating he play. They were presented with far quicker ball by the forwards and released the backs time and time again. The decision making was impressive with Sam switching to the blindside on occasions which resulted in at least one try.

Todd's handling was superb, and with plenty of options available he consistently kept the game moving forward at pace. He fully deserved his man of the match award from the coaches.

There was some brilliant rugby played but one move in the second half stood out above all the rest. We received the ball just inside our half and moved up the pitch interchanging between the pack and the backs several times. The pack would drive forward, set the ball up which was used by the backs to take the ball at pace with direct running and great passing. When tackled the pack were there again, to start the process all over. It was finished with Martin joining line with great timing to create an overlap, he used good hands and Bailey finished of in style. It was probably the best try of the season in the way the whole team contributed. It was incisive, quick, skilful and a joy to watch.

We ran in 10 tries. 4 for Bailey, 2 for Keane, 2 for the returning Torin and 2 for Andy T, his first of the season. The strength shown by the players in finishing was good. Also to mention the impressive work rate from Charlie Ethan and Ben as they got around the pitch and kept the ball moving.

This was a great way to start the new year, 8 unbeaten now. Standards have been set and are being taken forward. Next week a home game against st. Ives will be a big test, and we look forward to seeing further progress from the team. Keep up the great work lads, as it is paying off in the performances.
