There was a sense of excitement and tension around tregorrick park as the two teams took to the field with the teams drawing there friendly earlier in the season. This quarter final was always going to be tight, and decided by small margins. The weather was dry for a change but a strong wind prevailed.
Wadebridge had the majority of territory for the first half, spending it around our 22. Our defence was strong and restricted the opportunities for them to threaten our try line. There was a marked improvement around the rucks and mauls from last week, but wadebridge had a slight advantage in this part. However we were on top in the scrums and lineouts. We conceded a try from a lineout in our own 22, which wadebridge stole and powered through to score. The conversion was missed.
The second half was a complete reverse of he first with the saints have the territory and pressure. Again opportunities were rare, but we missed a couple of chances of an overlap by knocking on. The camels did well to keep us out until bailey went over in the corner with a trademark finish. The conversion was missed. After a lengthy break in play due to an injury to their prop, the scrums were uncontested for he rest of the match. We tried to work a final chance to win the game but could not get through.
A great team performance and a competitive match played in good spirits, with the coaches unable to pin point an individual as man of the match. They gave it to the whole team. Obviously the boys were disappointed to go into he vase cup having not lost the game. But confidence should remain high and heads held up as we are now 11 games unbeaten and a chance to win trophy still alive.
