Cold and muddy...just like it ought to be!

U-11’s v Lankelly (A) Well finally after a period of wet and more wet, cancellation, the U-11’s were able to play at Lankelly, their drainage is clearly better than everybody else’s.

Running out for the Saints were Lillian (C), Thomas, William, Maximillian, Rhys, Johnny, Ty, Jago, Alfie and the 2 Tylers. The management trying hard to make sure the team were kept warm and get back into the swing of things after such a long layoff, did some training focusing on ball handling and stretching. The ball handling was vital since due to the conditions a running game it will not be. Due to a depleted Lankelly team we lent them two players which we rotated to allow a fairness.

Before the start the management took Lillian to one side and told her that she was going to the scrumhalf for the game and boss the rest about, this was a great strategy as throughout the game it proved a correct tactic. From the kick-off it was confirmed to be a ball handling game as the ball rapidly became a mud pie, putting in the scrum was interesting as it just stuck in the mud.

However, the team produced at times what could be described as excellent rugby, using all the team, ball moving from hand to hand, when tackled, the ruck over, allowing Lillian to recycle the ball keeping the Saints on the front foot. William and Maximillian clicked and produced yards in bundles both going over the white wash together several times, with Jago in close support. Quick ball from the ruck allowed Thomas and Johnny to stretch theirs legs going over in either corner. Rhys collected a high ball with the panache of an international full back.

Play of the day was, ball won in our 22, by William and Maximillian who gain the yardage by bashing more holes, Lillian to Thomas down the line to Geoff(Tyler)then back Lillian on the loop stretching down the left wing with Rhys in support. Great play team.

William 5, Thomas 3, Maximillian 2, Lillian 2, Johnny 2, Rhys 1 they scored 5 in reply.

Player of the Match – Lillian

It was Geoff's (Tyler) last game for us as he joins Newquay due to family location and increasing time constraints making it hard for him to get here. We wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him when we play at Newquay on the 25th Feb.

I am sorry if I missed any action, but I don’t know everybody’s name yet and the mud obscured most of the players, but I hope you all get a feel of the game. Training Tuesday 1900hrs-2000hrs at Poltair’s astro, let's continue the rest of the season in style.
