Report by Phil Raddenbury
It was a close physical contest throughout with both teams knocking the absolute out of one another with key injuries making the difference .The Sinners can hold their heads up high in a display of guts and determination, to the visitors a hard worked win.
In the worst conditions imaginable the Sinners and Saltash made this a true spectacle of rugby. The visitors took an early lead that was cancelled out by George Hutchinson’s cool penalty (3-3). The Sinners gained the ascendancy, and it was centre Peter Tuckley who grabbed the try to give the home side a 10-3 lead at the break. They were left to rue some earlier missed opportunities when the Ashes got themselves back in the game with unconverted try early in the second half.
As the heavens opened and conditions worsened both sides look to land the winning blow. A well struck penalty nudged the visitors ahead and a try in a nail bighting finale. The Sinners coaching staff can be very proud of the team’s performance as they pushed the high-flying Ashes all the way.
