And what a windy day it was. However, both sides used the strong wind to good effect in an exciting game that saw the Mighty Sinners proudly prevail by 39 points to nil.
The game started with Sinners having the wind behind them and it must have given them tremendous impetus because after pushing the first scrum back several yards the game then went uncontested.
However, this was not to have any effect on the determination shown by everyone on the pitch. The first 15 minutes were evenly contested by both sides, then a pass was put out to Sam Kendall who streaked home to score the first try. Wide out and in a strong wind it went unconverted, as did several others including the second try 5 minutes later when Curtis Newberry shot towards the line and crossed to dot down.
It took another 18 minutes of strong defence and decisive attack before Chris Haley The Man Mountain charged for the line and scored to give us a 15 point lead at half time.
A rousing team talk by skipper Darren Thompson saw a rapid start to the second half, with Sam Ferrari Kendall scoring two tries in the first five minutes to complete his hat trick, the second of which was converted by Alex Bomber The Boot Burke.
Bodmin tightened up their defence and it took a further 22 minutes before returner Rob Jeffs crossed the line for a fine try.
Finally, with seconds to go Jed Brokenshire managed to get a final try under the posts which resulted in Bomber the Boot Burkey delivering a fine drop kick conversion, and this was followed by the final whistle.
We would like to say a really big “thank you” to Scott McNally who, thinking he was coming to watch and have a few beers with Noggin found himself acting as referee when the appointed official failed to make it. Thank you Scott. Excellent job.
The Might Sinners are away next Saturday to Camborne so please can you all make training this week as whilst every game is a game we want to win, victory in this one will ensure a top 3 placing for Christmas.
